This year’s Touch-A-Truck event will be taking place on Sunday, April 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Parkland Composite High School.
The Edson LEAP Centre’s initiative of providing support to children and families with diverse needs inspired the sensory friendly hour from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The sensory friendly hour will provide an opportunity for individuals to explore the mighty machines without horns or flashing lights.
Melissa Johnson, event organizer, says, “A new addition to this year’s event will be our first ‘Little Tikes Parade’ at 12:00 p.m. Prizes will be provided for the Most Entertaining, the Most Creative, and the Best Dressed parade float. We are asking anyone wanting to join to check-in at the east entrance before 11:45 a.m. Any decorated, child size vehicle, wagon, bike, stroller, or battery powered unit can participate. The LEAP R/C racetrack is returning this year and will be open during the event with formal races running from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. We encourage anyone that is interested to bring their own R/C vehicle for a loop around the track.”
“We have many returning machines including cranes, dump trucks, loaders, graders, and backhoes. A few other great features will be the mascots, a sponsored BBQ and amenities,” Johnson says. “Last year’s event had over 850 individuals in attendance so our goal this year is to achieve 1000 participants.”

“Our Society strives to provide activities and events in our community that are unique and inclusive to everyone, and proceeds from the events are used to support diverse learners and their families throughout the year. The support from sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers and participants for this event has been impressive and we would like to extend a thank-you to everyone that makes this event so memorable,” says Johnson.
