Repsol Place was the place to be March 22 to
the 24th as the Edson Axmen Rugby Club held
a fundraiser in the form of a hockey tournament.
Although there were less teams participating
than last year, the teams that showed up to play
clearly enjoyed the weekend.
“It was really great to get out and play some
hockey with friends and family, and support an
awesome local sport at the same time,” said
tournament player Derek DePee.
DePee played for the 'DePee Whalers' who
came in second place in the tournament, behind
the 'Baker Hughes Beauties'. 'The Tunas' came
in third.
The Axmen Rugby Club had two teams
participating in the tournament themselves, 'The
Axmen' and 'Dirty Dan and the Boys'.Although
their teams did not place, Club President Jonah
Kuzmic said they are “looking forward to next
year's event already”.
The Axmen Rugby teams are gearing up to the
start of their season and are looking forward to
getting out on the field when the snow melts.
Rugby leagues are separated into men and
women, so the Club has both a Men's team and
a Ladies team.
Both Rugby teams are welcoming new
players, so contact Ladies Director Cheyanne
