Annual Kinsmen Soap Box Derby draws big crowd

by Callie Hermanson
and Dana McArthur

Edson's 6th Annual Kinsmen Father's
Day Soap Box Derby was a huge success
on a beautiful and hot Sunday, June 19.
Organizer (and honorary Kinsmen for
the day) Gean Chouinard said, "It was the
best weather we ever had and it sure helped
with the attendance."
The races took place from 12 p.m. to 4
p.m. between 63rd street and 9th Ave.
Close to 175 people turned out for the
event with 75 to 80 registered drivers this
year which was up from last year. "We had
a lot more new drivers come out this year
and that's great to see," said Chouinard,
adding it was fun and exciting event.
New this year was the Outlaw Food
truck to provide hungry racers with lunch.
"People really loved the food that was
provided, and it was a big help having
them there.”
Participants received their own driver's
licence and were presented with a medal
and a certificate of participation.
Chouinard said, “I'd like to thank all the
volunteers and sponsors. We're looking Ready set GO! These young racers
forward to next year." were having a blast at the Annual
Kinsmen Soap Box Derby June 19.
