Family Day Winter Carnival encourages families to connect
by Deanna Mitchener
On February 16, the Town of
Edson partnered with Canadian
Parents for French to host a
Family Day Winter Carnival at
Willmore Park.
The Family Day Winter
Carnival started out as a Family
Day event to encourage the
whole family to unplug from
electronics and connect with one
another in the outdoors.
All kinds of free winter
activities were available for
attendants to enjoy, such as
tobogganing, winter walks,
snowman building, snow angels,
cross country skiing, and snow-
shoeing.
Attendants also had the
opportunity to enjoy a winter
picnic in the park, with five fires
set up to cook hotdogs and
s'mores. Hot chocolate and maple
syrup taffy were some other Bonhomme made a special trip out to Willmore Park on February 16 for the Family Day Winter Carnival that was

event.
The Town of Edson arranged
free bus service to and from
Willmore Park, making it an
event that could be enjoyed by
all.
With such great weather, the
fourth annual Winter Carnival
was well attended and seems to
get bigger and bigger each year.
Town of Edson Community
Development Coordinator Ali
Broda thanked Alberta Wildfire
Information Officer Caroline
Charbonneau for her help setting
up the event.
Plenty of positive comments
were heard throughout the event.
One attendant commented, “It is
so nice to have a free winter
event to attend outside to help
break up the winter months.”
Another participant noted,
“Being able to try skiing is a
great way to introduce the
grandkids to things we have
never tried before.” Another
attendant said, “We had so much
fun. We will be back again next
year!” Maple snow taffy was one of the delicious treats offered during the Family Day Winter Carnival that was held at
