Edson Ice loses NCHL playoff round
by Mikaela Kuefler
On January 22, 23 and 29, the Edson Ice played
three NCHL playoff games against the first place
Southern Division team, the Daysland Northstars.
On January 22, Daysland beat Edson with a score of
11-3. Edson kept their penalties down to limit the
amount of powerplays Daysland was able to achieve
but Daysland still capitalized on two out of the three
opportunities. Edson was able to break down
Daysland's defence a few times when Brain Hawley
and Dylan Kocur scored in the second period and
Andrew Estey scored, unassisted, in the third.
On January 23, Daysland won 15-1. During this
game, Zachary Thompson was able to score the only
goal in the third period, unassisted. During both
games, Daysland had a high number of shots on net
in the first and second periods but Edson was able to
keep them from shooting as often in the third.
On January 29, the Edson Ice played the Daysland
Northstars at Talisman Place for the third playoff
game. Edson played hard against Daysland, and put
up a good fight in the first period. In the second
period, Edson was unable to overcome Daysland's
accurate passing and good puck handling, allowing
Daysland to score four times. With twenty eight
seconds left in the period, Riley Hellekson (12)
scored with Craig Materi (7) and Dion LeBlue (21)
