This time of year proves busy for the Edson Food Bank, with more and more individuals and families needing to access the
facility with Christmas right around the corner.
Community members in Edson and the Yellowhead County have been wonderful at helping to keep this program running with a
considerable amount of donations and volunteers stepping up.
On November 27, Unifor Local 447 Maintenance and Productions both donated a $1000 cheque to the Edson Food Bank from
their Union at Weyerhauser for a total of $2,000.
Allison Hinks and Pat Keamey representing both Unifor Local 447 Maintenance and Productions said, “We wanted to give back
to the community, so the money is from our membership dues at Unifor Local 447. We realize how important the food bank is to
those in need of a little extra help, especially around this time of year."
Edson Food Bank president Fred Kuzmic said on behalf of the Food Bank, "It means a lot to the Food Bank and our clients
that access this service.
“We are getting more clients and would really like to be able to give each individual and family a little bit more for the month of
December. The money will go towards the purchase of extra turkeys and maybe some small hams this year.
“We all know that the clients have money to buy food, but for Christmas they want to be like others when it comes to buying
gifts for their families. The money that normally goes towards food and personal care products is going towards gifts, so they
count on the food bank a little more this time of year.
“This town is so amazing with all that they supply towards groceries and money so we can supply our clients. We are here to
help and we thank the community for all their support.
“We do not judge anyone; we are just here to help and we couldn't do what we do without the support from Edson and
Yellowhead County. Thank you all very much for making a difference."
