Jrad Tourney helps raise mental health awareness
by Shaylyn Thornton
The Jrad Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament
was a weekend full of community support,
fun, and athletics. The tournament, which
was held June 14-16 at the McLeod Valley
Recreation Grounds, has had four
successful years now.
The goal of the Jrad is to raise mental
health awareness and is played in honor of
Jordon Radcliffe, who tragically took his
own life on November 23, 2015.
Jordon was funny, down to earth, and got
along well with everyone. He loved to fish
and quad and spend time outdoors or with
his family.
Doug Radcliffe, Jordon's dad, spoke about
Jordon and who he was. “He would do
anything for anybody,” he said. “He was the
life of the party.”
Jordon's grandmother Martha Romaniuk
described him as “So adventurous, good
hearted, and a great grandson.” His
grandmother Sarah Radcliffe couldn't help Brandon Radcliffe, Jordon's brother, played for Trish Radcliffe, Jordon's mom, played for team

Jordon's family is so grateful for the
support they get from the community.
“Everybody's been really good. We have
amazing volunteers and even the teams and
all they do,” said Doug. “The Bombers,
after every game, do their cheers. Three
hips and one for Jordon.”
Jordon's mom, Trish Romaniuk Radcliffe,
said the tournament was made up of “lots of
laughs, a few tears, and a whole lot of love.
And we couldn't do it without all of our
volunteers that stick with us through the
whole weekend.”
From the family and friends to the players
to the volunteers, everyone involved in the
tournament had a great weekend playing
ball and making a difference. Although
usually a 16-team ball tournament, one
team dropped out so they ran with 15 teams
instead.

it.
