A "great season and banner win" for Rebels football team

by Shaylyn Thornton

The Holy Redeemer High School football
team travelled to Lacombe on November 8 to
take on Rimbey in the Provincial Quarterfinals.
Rimbey was seated as the 3rd highest ranked
team going into Provincials, with the Rebels
ranked as 6th.
The Rebels got off to a bit of a rocky start,
and although a motivational half-time speech
kicked them back into gear and had them
playing really well in the second half, they
“were just too deep in a hole, losing the game
86-32,” said Head Coach Mike Bachinsky.
“We didn't really focus on the loss to be
honest,” he said. “The message was it was
amazing to get the opportunity to go to
Provincials and the loss did not take away
from the great season and banner win.”
The team named the final players of the game
for the season as Ryhker Lamabe and Rudy
Clark. “Rudy with a huge interception which
he ran back for a 70 yard touchdown, and
Ryhker with some amazing jukes to shake off
defenders for a 65 yard touchdown,” were
plays that helped Bachinsky make the decision.
The Rebels' team this year had a challenge
right from the get, because of a smaller team
size – the smallest in their history so far. But
the group made sure that didn't impact their
success.
“Big hearts, small roster,” said Bachinsky. “It
doesn't matter how stacked the deck is against
you, if you stay focused, set attainable goals,
and come together as a team… good things can
happen.”
