Balancing act of being a new mom and a barrel racer

Finding the time to be a new mother while also
barrel racing seems like it would be quite the
challenge, but that's exactly what Edson resident
Kailee Groat has managed to do this year with the
birth of her son Kreo on April 7.
Groat spoke about her transition from barrel racing
Gerald Soroka to motherhood. "I barrel raced into the fall of last
year, and then I actually packed flags at the CFR in

didn't do any more competitions after that. I rode until
I was pretty much 8 months pregnant."
Following Kreo's birth, Groat got an unexpected
break from barrel racing, as rodeos were one of the
many things impacted by COVID shutdowns. Groat
welcomed the break from competition to focus on her
new family. "It was nice to have the time at home. My
husband was also laid off, so that was good," she said.

Balancing act of being a new mom and a barrel racer

Finding the time to be a new mother while also
barrel racing seems like it would be quite the
challenge, but that's exactly what Edson resident
Kailee Groat has managed to do this year with the
