accountability; as well as producing reports in Taylor Heaslip, Assistant Principal, Grand Trunk
High School, Evansburg - Taylor has been with
Grande Yellowhead since 2012 at Wildwood School,
teaching at the elementary and junior high levels. He
also enjoyed his duties as the assistant principal, and
is looking forward to deepening his leadership skills at
the high school as 'it's a great opportunity to reconnect
with former students and collaborate with new
colleagues.'
Arthur Cota, Assistant Principal, Grande Cache
Community High School, Grande Cache - Arthur and
his wife Susan have been teaching in Grande Cache
since 2010 when they moved to the mountain community
from Ontario. He is currently the learning support teacher
at GCCHS and has taught in the SonRise Christian
Program. Arthur received his Master degree from
Queen's University in 2011. He assumed the acting
assistant principal position at the high school earlier this
year. As a new leader he plans to 'actively engage with the local community
by working together to improve student learning'.
Amanda Gilmore, Principal, Niton Central School,
Niton Junction - Amanda joins the GYPSD team most
recently from Worsley Central School (K-12), where she
served as principal. She has taught language arts and
physical education. Modeling a life-long passion for
learning, she has two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts and
Bachelor of Education (with honours) from the University
of New Brunswick. She spent time in South Korea
teaching English. Along with her constant canine
companion, Dante. Amanda enjoys spending time
exploring the outdoors and seeking new adventures. She is looking forward
to her new position, getting familiar with her new school community 'where
everyone can learn and grow together'.
Kevin Bissoon, Principal, The Learning Connection
Centres - Kevin had a very busy summer before he took
over the helm of the five outreach centres for GYPSD.
After his last week teaching at Vimy Ridge Academy for
Edmonton Public School Board (EPSB), he spent the
next few weeks teaching summer school in Edmonton,
before officially joining Grande Yellowhead. Kevin likes
the flexibility and challenge of multiple projects - in his 22
years with EPSB, he has spent time in several high
schools as a teacher, department head, assistant
principal, and was the program coordinator/developer for the Learn
Write/LearnNet program which is similar to GYPSD's outreach program.
Kevin believes that 'the journey is the reward' and he is ready to roll up his
sleeves and work with the TLC team to build upon the current strengths of the
program because 'kids don't care about what your background is, or what
your title is. They care what you do.'
