Corporate Charity Slo-Pitch Tournament
gives back to the community
by Shaylyn Thornton
On August 28, oil and gas-based companies in
the area hit the slo-pitch fields at Vision Park to
compete in a tournament against each other.
Volunteers from Shell Canada took charge of
planning the Edson Corporate Oil and Gas Charity
Slo-Pitch Tournament, with the goal of creating a
“fun filled team building event,” said Shell staff
members and tournament organizers Sarah Aubin
and Scott Borton. “We also wanted to raise funds
for a local Edson charity.”
The group decided that the proceeds would go to
the Edson & District Boys & Girls Club because of
the great services they offer the community. Staff
from the Club volunteered in the beer gardens for
the day. Teams had a fantastic time at the Edson Corporate Oil and Gas Charity Slo-Pitch Tournament. Pictured

event, and worked together to raise funds through
registrations, raffle prizes, 50/50 draws, as well as
the beer gardens. The participants definitely
showed up to play, but even more apparent was
their generosity.
“We raised over $8000 for the Boys & Girls
Club,” said Aubin. “They will be using the funds
for local programming activities, like crafts and
Kids in the Kitchen.”
The Club's Program Director, Shelby DePee,
spoke on how much this means to them. “We are so
grateful from the support we get from Shell,” she
said. “This is not the first time they have stepped
up, and we would not be able to offer the
programming we do without them. Every single
person and company who participated in and
supported this tournament has made a huge
difference to us.”
The Club noted that although the generosity is
“phenomenal”, Shell does more than just donate.
“They have some of the most outstanding staff who
are always willing to help out, whether it's with
hosting events, tutoring our kids, offering cooking
programs,” said DePee. “Whatever it is, Shell has
always been one of our biggest supporters.”
In addition to hitting a home run with their
fundraising, the tournament also had great game
