RCMP extinguish the Edson Fire Department in charity game
by Shaylyn Thornton
Members of the Edson Fire Department and
Edson RCMP arrived at Repsol Place on March
30 ready to battle it out on the ice.
The two teams, aptly named “The Hose
Swingers” and “The Gun Slingers” were not just
playing for bragging rights, but to earn money
for a great cause.
Friends, family, and members of the
community cheered throughout the game for
their respective teams. Both the RCMP and
Edson Fire clearly had a great time, but in the
end The Gun Slingers pulled out the win 6-4.
The true winners, however, were the Sheepdog
Lodge and the Edson Food Bank. The event
raised $1478.50 for the Sheepdog Lodge, and 54
full bags of groceries were donated to the Food
Bank. The funds raised for the Sheepdog Lodge
go towards helping combat veterans and first
responders.
This was the first Edson Fire vs RCMP Charity
Hockey Game, however the community support
was tremendous. A large, generous crowd and
amazing sponsors made this event a great
success for all involved.
