Candy-coated fun during Peers Gold Dust Daze Parade
by Dawn Olsvik
On Saturday morning August 3, hundreds of
spectators gathered to line the route for the
annual Peers Gold Dust Daze parade.
The sun made a welcome appearance and
people of all ages were entertained by the
colourful parade. Local dignitaries, families,
businesses, service groups, churches, and horses
all took part in the fun.
Children of all ages collected the candy and
treats being passed out by parade participants.
Local county fire fighters passed out fire helmets
to happy children along the route dubbing them
honorary fire fighters.
Float entries including the Peers Youth Group,
Yoho Museum, Peers Hotel, Mills Motors,
Country Farm and Feed and many more, were
wonderfully decorated for the annual event.
Puffed Wheat John and his helpers, along with
characters from the popular children's show Paw
Patrol were a big hit with the kids lining the
streets.
Boats in the parade sported flags saying In A young Puffed Wheat John and his goats was one of several amazing costume designs displayed
Memory of “The River Rat”. These flags were during the Peers Gold Dust Daze Parade on August 3. photo Dawn Olsvik
in honor of Warren McGuire. Trish Bodnar,
