Outdoor movie in celebration of National Indigenous Day
by Cassie Kushniruk
In honor of National Indigenous
Day on June 21, the Town of
Edson, Edson Friendship Centre,
and members of the Indigenous and
Metis community hosted an
outdoor movie screening at
Centennial Park highlighting
Indigenous culture.
Community members were
invited to the park for a special
screening of the 1970s classic
'Little Big Man', which contrasts
the lives of American Pioneers and
Indigenous peoples. “Even though
it came out so many years ago, it
really painted a very positive light
on Indigenous culture,” said Town
of Edson Community Development
Coordinator Diana Inscho.
Prior to the feature film, another
movie was shown, which depicted
the life of an elder of the local
Metis community. “He gave us
some background on what life was
like growing up for him,” Inscho
said. “That was really cool.” On June 21, 16 local community members made it out to Centennial Park for a screening of 'Little Big Man'
