Holy Redeemer's Junior A Girls Win Zones
submitted
Some might call it a fairy tale story, or a
classic underdog story, but no matter how you
say it, the Holy Redeemer Junior A Girls won the
Zone Basketball Championship in a triumphant
fashion.
“These young ladies worked incredibly hard,”
says Head Coach Brian Davison. “They certainly
had their ups and downs throughout the season,
but when they were faced the big championship
tournament, they stepped up their game and
really came through to win it.”
The Rebels squad had a great season winning a
majority of their games and ended up being
ranked first overall in the zone. The ranking
would see them receive a bye in the first round of
the Zone Championship, which was played on
March 2nd in Mayerthorpe.
The Rebels' first game, which doubled as the
semi-final, came against their school division
rivals, St. Joseph's School from Whitecourt. It
was a back and forth match with lots of scoring
opportunities from both teams. In the end, HRH
emerged victorious.
The win would place them in the gold medal
game against Neerlandia. “I'm not going to lie, it
was a really tense game,” says grade 9 player
Zoe Schwitz. “Our team suffered a key injury at The Holy Redeemer Junior A Girls emerged victorious at the annual Zone Championship on March 2nd
