Meet Your Local Edson Fire Fighter
by Natalie Rau
In this week's installment of Meet Your
Local Edson Fire Fighter, our featured
Fire Fighter is Captain Ian Carroll.
Ian has been with the Edson Fire
Department for 7 years. Before then, he
was with the Yellowhead County Fire
Department. “I just wanted to help people
and make a difference,” Ian said about
volunteering.
Ian has lived all over Canada as his
father was in the Air Force, and Ian later
moved to Edson for work.
Cpt. Carrol's favorite part about the
Edson Fire Department is the
brother/sisterhood. “We are a close family
and we look out for each other,” he said.
“Over the course of a career, volunteer
fire fighters experience different
extremes, both physical and emotional.
We have a special bond that we all feel
compelled to help the community within
and outside the walls of the Fire Hall”.
For the past 10 years, Ian has been a
strong competitor in Fire Fit, a
competitive sports competition for fire
fighters. Ian has competed in several
regional, national and world events. “The
training and dedication to this sport has
helped me stay in excellent physical shape
for Edson Fire,” he said. “Edson Fire is
well known and respected at these
events.”
