County celebrates World Snow Day at Bear Lake
by Masha Scheele
Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sleigh rides,
roasting marshmallows and sipping hot chocolate,
that's how numerous people from Yellowhead
County celebrated World Snow Day on January 20.
Fortunately, the sun was shining bright and the
temperature came up a few degrees from the day
before in order for everyone to thoroughly enjoy the
snow and the day's events.
“Today is World Snow Day, so all around the
world they're trying to promote people to get outside
in the Winter and show them that they can still be
active outdoors,” said Yellowhead County
Recreation Coordinator, Jina Materi.
For the third year, Yellowhead County Parks and
Recreation Department organized and hosted the
event at Bear Lake.
Snowshoes and cross-country skis were available
to use for the day from Yellowhead County, and
sleigh rides were enjoyed courtesy of Setzer's Sleigh
and Wagon Rides. This year cross-country ski
rentals for kids were available, allowing the entire PASSPORT PHOTOS & MORE
family to enjoy the outdoors together. “We found
that with the sleigh rides and skis, we get way more
people coming out,” added Materi. After the skis Professional Digital
and snowshoes were kicked-off, campfires warmed Families enjoyed winter sleigh rides by Setzer's Sleigh and Wagon Rides during the County's World Passport System

"Throughout the two hours I would say we had while you wait...
close to 100 people out to enjoy all the festivities.
We were extremely pleased with how the day went,
great turnout of people, the weather was perfect and The Weekly Anchor
everyone seemed to have a good time enjoying some 5040 3rd Avenue, Edson
of the great activities winter has to offer," said
