Edson Minor Ball holds successful Tiering tournament

by Shaylyn Thornton

The Bantam Edson Prospects showed up to play
ball at Griffith Field on July 13 and 14 for a
weekend of Provincial Tiering.
The Tiering weekend was the second in a row
for the Bantam travel team, with the first held in
Grimshaw. The PeeWee travel team also
participated in two weekends of Tiering, visiting
both St. Albert and John Fry Park in Edmonton.
Tiering splits the ball teams up into different
levels, and the level determines where they will
play Provincials for the A-Ball tournament.
Edson was asked by Alberta Minor Ball to hold
the Tiering weekend for Bantam only a couple of
weeks prior to the actual event, said Edson Minor
Ball President Christina Gauchier. The
organization was honored, but first had to make
sure they would have enough volunteers to pull
the event off.
Thankfully, the coaches, players, and friends
and family of the team stepped up so that Edson
could host their first ever Tiering weekend. They
were met with some tough obstacles such as
having to work on the fields to get them dry
enough to play on.
A second challenge for Edson is the fact that we
technically only have one field that is properly
set up for baseball, as opposed to slo-pitch.
Certain distances are required between baselines,
and an actual pitcher's mound is needed for the
diamond to fit within Alberta Minor Ball
regulations.
