Wildfire gets extremely close to hamlet and rural homes
Quick reactions and smart thinking from first responders help get residents out of harm's way for Marlboro Fire

Yellowhead County received the
first call regarding an out of control
fire at 4:23 PM MST on Sunday,
May 19, 2019.
The fire (Fire Number EWF-033)
originated south of Highway 16
near Range Road 195A and moved
north to Highway 16 where it
jumped the highway. The fire was
about 800-900 metres away from
the Hamlet of Marlboro boundaries.
Residents in the area were
evacuated quickly as a
precautionary measure. The
evacuation areas included the
Hamlet of Marlboro, Miller Lake
east and west subdivisions, and
Range Road 195A. Approximately
130 homes were part of the
evacuation zone where Yellowhead
County protective services officers
and RCMP did a door-to door
evacuation sweep. Evacuees were
requested to register at the reception
centre in Edson or call the evacuee
information phone line to register.
Yellowhead County declared a
Local State of Emergency at 18:54 Wildfire firefighters working to put out hot-spots near Marlboro that was threatening communities in the area on May 19.
