Pacer girls shoot a Silver
Parkland Pacers girls Junior Varsity volleyball team played in the BCHS
JV Invitational in Barrhead held on September 24 weekend.
The first tournament of the year for the JV girls went very well.
We started out a little slow with figuring out rotations and positions on
the court but after a few games of playing next to the same girls, we started
to get more confident and aggressive and got better as the day went on.
In the round robin, we beat Fort Saskatchewan in three sets, St. Mary's in
straight sets, then Barrhead in three sets to be the first place team in our
pool with a 3-0 record.
We then played Westlock in the quarterfinals and beat them in two
straight sets, 25-18 and 25-17.
We then faced Morinville in the semifinals and had a fantastic, back and
forth, high intensity match.
The girls learned a lot about themselves in this one as it came down to
the last few points in the third set.
Morinville had a rowdy crowd behind them and we could have easily
given up on ourselves. But we dug deep and showed how much heart we
have by bearing down and pulling out the win. 25-12, 21-25, 16-14.
Amber, Grace, and Sarah became more confident on defense. Rickaya
and Brooklyn really stepped up their blocking in the middle position. All of
the JV girls contributed to the success of our weekend and are very proud
to bring home the silver medal this weekend.

The boy’s team travelled with seven players, all in grade ten. Undeterred,
they went undefeated during the round robin, playing the home team, the
Barrhead Gryphons, in the finals.
Barrhead, pumped up to play for their home crowd, started off with
strong serves during the first set and won by quite a margin. BADMINTON
In the second set, the Pacers made some adjustments and came out
roaring. They played a close set against Barrhead but managed to pull
away, winning 25-20.
With the start of the third set, the Pacers had a strong lead 8-3, continuing CLUB
to dominate the set until the end, with a score of 15-8. The Pacers won the
gold medal with a game score of 2-1.
After the finals, Pacers Leftside, Brock Holt, was nominated player of the Mondays at PCHS 8:00 to 10:00 pm
game due to his strong serves and passing, especially during the third set of
the finals.
“Late addition to the Pacers roster, Anderson King did a great job of Tuesdays at HRH 7:30 to 9:30 pm
playing Libero and provided a strong presence, defensively, while Trevor
Head successfully ran the Pacers offence in his first challenge of the Fridays at PCHS 7:00 to 10:00 pm
season,” explains Junior Varsity coach, Andrew Visser.
“By bringing a small roaster, it was a great opportunity for a lot of our $30/person or
younger players to get some game experience in the absence of our senior
Pacers. Without the leadership of the grade elevens and twelves, it was $60 per family per year
great to see younger players step into leadership roles and have their own
chance to show off their skills,” remarks Visser. Season runs from October to April
